German Village is an amazing place to visit with its beautiful historic homes, cobblestone streets, and local businesses. I have always loved going down to German Village here in Columbus. The houses are so old and beautiful. I would love to live there but I could never afford it. I enjoy looking at houses for sale in the neighborhood as a hobby.

German Village is a historic neighborhood just south of Downtown Columbus.

My favorite places to go to while in German Village are:
  • Schmidt’s Sausage Haus und Restaurant - This is an amazing place to eat in German Village. It can get very busy. We have waited for over an hour for a table there. It is worth the wait. Schmidt’s Famous Pretzel Nuggets are amazing. I get the buffet most of the time but the German Meatloaf is amazing. There are times when it is on the buffet.  Schmidts Fudge Haus is an amazing place to shop at while you wait for your table or after your meal. I recommend a late breakfast or brunch and around 4:00 head to Schmidt's to eat. You will have plenty of room for the buffet and a cream puff or some german chocolate cake.

  • The Book Loft - is an awesome place to visit. It is a historic book store with 32 rooms of books. The 32 rooms of books are like a maze. It is fun to browse books. You never know where you are going to end up or how are you are going to find your way back.
  • Max & Erma's in German Village - They have restaurants all over Ohio but the one on S. Third Street in German Village is the original. They have really good burgers. Their Soft Pretzel sticks are amazing. Fresh baked cookies are awesome too. If you are there on a Wednesday, check with your server because they used to do Free Cookie Day on Wednesday. I am not sure if they still offer the free cookies.
